One of the famous Balearic Islands, Menorca has long been a popular tourist destination and contains many quality hotels, which are situated throughout the island and particularly concentrated around the coastline. Much of the accommodation in Menorca offers weekend discounts, when various packages are promoted.
Maó, the capital of Menorca, offers a somewhat limited supply of hotels and lies on the south-eastern side of the island. Accommodation here can be in demand and as a result, room rates are known to rise sharply during the high season. However, the town also contains a range of budget options, together with Ciutadella, on the other side of Menorca. Popular accommodation in Maó includes the three-star Hotel Capri along the Calle Sant Esteve, and the Hotel Port Mahon on the Avenida Fort de l'Eau, where the most desirable rooms overlook the scenic Maó inlet.
The town of Ciutadella offers an elevated position, standing above its harbour and boasting impressive views. Featuring a number of spacious public plazas and lively Tapas bars, accommodation in Ciutadella is never far from the action. Noteworthy hotels in this part of Menorca are often close to the Cathedral and include the Hostal Sa Prensa on the Placa Madrid and the one-star Hotel Residencia Alfonso III, containing 50 basic rooms and featuring a convenient location for exploring the island, being close to the ring road.
